The cutest animal news around right now has to be the baby capybara triplets at Everland, the theme park in Yongin, Korea. Everland announced on October 14 that a capybara couple had given birth to three pups, and started showing them to visitors the very next day12. For anyone planning a visit, I put together the birth details, the viewing schedule, and a few things worth knowing about capybaras, based on Korean news reports.

Parents: Dotom and Dutum, Both Born in 2024

The triplets' parents are a capybara couple of the same age, both born in 2024: dad Dotom (male) and mom Dutum (female). In Korean, both names mean something like "plump" or "chubby," which suits a capybara perfectly2.

An Everland spokesperson said they are taking great care of the mother and babies so that the newest members of the family can grow up strong, and added that they hope the peaceful capybara family brings people a little laughter and comfort2.

Where and When to See the Baby Capybaras

  • On display from: October 15, 2026
  • Location: Ppuppa Town in Everland's Zootopia area
  • How: The pups appear together with their parents, Dotom and Dutum.

Everland said it will adjust the viewing hours and location as needed, depending on the babies' health and how well they settle in1. Since they are still very young, you may not get to see them every time, so it is a good idea to check the Everland app or social media for notices before you go.

Everland Zoo's official YouTube channel, 말하는동물원 뿌빠TV (roughly "Talking Zoo Ppuppa TV"), has also posted a short video of the triplets.

Naming Contest and Celebration Events

The triplets don't have names yet. Everland plans to hold a naming contest for the triplets, along with online and offline events to celebrate their birth2. Details on how to take part haven't been released yet; I'll add their names to this post once they are decided.

What Kind of Animal Is the Capybara?

Here are the capybara facts Everland shared with the announcement12.

  • It is the largest living rodent, native to rivers and wetlands in South America.
  • Its average lifespan is about 10 years.
  • Gestation lasts about 4 to 5 months, and a single litter has several pups, just like these triplets.
  • Pups are born covered in fur and developed enough to walk right away with their eyes open.
  • Round ears, a blunt nose, and a laid-back expression make it a popular "healing animal."
  • It gets along with ducks, turtles, monkeys, and other animals, which has earned it nicknames like "the friendliest animal" and "the social butterfly of the animal kingdom."

Everland's capybaras have also gone viral before for soaking in warm water. With the weather getting cooler, if you're lucky you might catch the capybara family enjoying a hot bath.

Wrapping Up

To sum up, Everland's baby capybara triplets were born on September 28 and have been on display at Ppuppa Town since October 15. Baby animals are easily startled by loud noises and camera flashes, so if you go, please watch them quietly. I'll update this post when there's news such as the naming contest results.
